Update 1/23/2025

Hi Everyone

Hope everyone is staying warm and not planning on going to Florida to enjoy the warm beaches.

For all who missed last week's training session at the Newton Library which Connie and Doris sponsored, I would like to share some important information with you. The Unifour Childrens Sight program now has three avenues for assisting children and adults in our unifour area with financial aid. As you are aware the VIP program was paused last year and NCLF has not brought forward any type of program to help the clubs. So with a generous donation from one of our community business partners and the heartfelt service of First Vision (Donald & Elizabth York) we the UCS have programs in place to continue assisting those in our Unifour Community who face the financial challenge of acquiring glasses.
The Benefield Vision Fund children's program operates similar to the old VSP program where parents submit an assistance request. The request goes to the administrator of the Benefield Vision Fund who verifies the requirements are met and a letter of approval sent to First Vision for payment of the exam. First Vision will perform an examination and then send a prescription to me which in turn I place an order through our Essilor program who will send a completed set of glasses to First Vision for fitting at no charge. The Benefiled Vision fund started in early fall with a beginning fund of $2000.00 and has grown to $2700.00 due to additional donations from the community. This amount will help provide glasses to thirty eight kids and the great part is at the end of our Lions year in July an additional $2000.00 will be added to the fund.
If clubs would like to use his program for an adult they can follow the same process but will pay First Vision directly for the exam at a reduced rate and the glasses will be ordered through Essilor at no charge.
Another program that exists in our area is a program through LensCrafters which will at the recommendation and documentation from the  Unifour Childrens Sight furnish an exam and glasses at no charge.
Lastly, for patients in the Morganton area we have a partnership with the Good Samaritan Clinic which will examine a patient with recommendation from UCS and with our Essilor program furnish glasses at no charge.
Attached are the program guidelines and the request forms for you to use. If you have any questions please feel free to call.
Thanks to All for our Service!
